When I signed up to do this blog a month ago, I was planning to do a glowing report about my New Year’s diet progress. It was going to be an inspiring post (for me, at least) about how, after a two-month junk food bender between Halloween and Christmas, I’d lost 6 pounds since January 1 and was fitting into my conference clothes again. Hooray!
Unfortunately, that didn’t work out.
I dieted for one week, then totally lost interest in doing anything but standing in my kitchen, eating ice cream slathered in peanut butter, straight from the canister. So now I’m on Plan B: I eat whatever I want and magically lose weight. I’ll let you know how that works out.
Anyway, is there anyone else out there who is struggling with their diet, or has already chucked it out the window?
Or even better, is there anyone out there who is still actually sticking to it and feeling hopeful and pleased with the results? I would love to hear from you. I could really use the inspiration!
In the meantime, I’m playing with other makeover ideas that don’t involve diets. Maybe I’ll go blonde or something. Hmm, I wonder how I'd look as a blonde? That could be fun.

Mine dieting is going as well as yours is :) and I thing I will be giving up soon...
But according to your pictures you don't need any dieting?
I'm honestly not big on dieting....I mean the first 3 letters of the word spell DIE, that's just an onmious warning...In my opinion. I'm all for the eating healthy, and of course ice cream slathered in Peanut butter counts in that catagory.
I mean you have the milk, and depending on the type of ice cream you might even have some fruit, or grains, and the peanut butter is protien...you got plenty from the food pyramid...I'm all for it. :-)
Hi Host! Thanks for your nice words! I gained 5 pounds over Halloween/Christmas, not too bad (especially compared to when I had 60 pounds to lose after pregnancy), but I feel bad about it. I guess now that I'm in my 30s, though, I'm just not willing to do the hungry girl thing anymore. On the plus side, I'm training for a half-marathon with a friend, so maybe I'll just focus on getting healthy instead, rather than getting thin.
BTW, everyone, I deleted a post that linked to some kind of Asian porn site - hope you all don't mind. None of those girls looked like they needed to go on diets.

I not big on dieting. I am a firm believer of eating what you like when you like. But my exercising has not been going to good lately. I've been more lazy than I want to be.
I don't do diet, it's so hard and since i eat all the BAD food it's hard to change my habit, i do try and do some sort of exercise...but lately i've been really tired/lazy.

Beginning in 2004, and continuing
through Fall of last year, I lost
50 pounds. You don't want to begin
a weight loss program as I had to.
It all began with a 3-day hospital
stay for food poisoning and a
diagnosis of diabetes. Once the
acute symptoms of food poisoning
were under control and I had been
re-hydrated, I began an entirely
new life style. I've been able
to maintain most of the loss for
this time period. The holidays
seem to play about with 5 pounds.
I'm currently working on removing
that slight increase. Just a note
to all: diabetes is not fun!!
I'm almost 40 years old and I spent most of my teenage years and my 20's dieting. it didn't work. All it did was make me a very angry person because I was hungry all the time and then I would get mad at everyone around me for being able to eat what they wanted. So now that I'm older I just don't care anymore and I'm finally happy with myself. I don't care what anyone else thinks of my weight and I can have the occasionally bad food and splurge. Of course I have to argue with my doctor everytime I see her. LOL But I kinda like that...:P Be happy with who you are. You are beautiful person and you only live once. eat what you want.
Rebekah, I know what you mean about sometimes not exercising as much as one would like. I hate it when I don't have time to work out. It's my sanity-saving time of the day, the time just for me, when I can veg out on the treadmill and watch trash TV without guilt. I get seriously cranky when I don't work out for a few days - kind of like if I don't write for that long! I hope your time frees up soon to do something you really enjoy!
Van Pham, I know just what you mean about loving "bad" food. Now if I could just reprogram my brain to crave apples instead of chocolate peanut butter ice cream. (Which I just ate AGAIN, five minutes ago, while standing up and watching American Idol - when I was supposedly cleaning up the kitchen. Not good!)
Pat, congrats on that amazing 50 pound weight loss! And even better, congrats on getting the diabetes under control . Several of my family members have diabetes so I know it's nothing to screw around with - and it's definitely not fun. :( But you've managed to turn it all into a positive with your new healthy lifestyle. You are truly an inspiration!
Mary, I really appreciate your insights - we're about the same age, so I think maybe we're coming from the same place. At a certain point, you just have to accept yourself and be happy with what you've got, rather than killing yourself trying to be some unhealthy/ unattainable ideal. Like you said, I think it helps to get older. Self-acceptance goes up, as well as the awareness of what we'll put up with in our lives and what we don't. Maybe that's why, in national studies, older people consistently (and surprisingly!) rank their happiness as much higher than teenagers and twentysomethings.
And on that note, I'll have a little more ice cream. Thanks for all the advice you guys. :)
That is my resolution is to lose the weight I have packed on this last year. I usually just eat healthier, cut out fattening snacks and exercising. It always works for me. Plus I am outdoorsy person and get lots of exercise in the summer so that always helps out when you are more active.

I'm trying to eat heathier but I have to admit that junkfood calls to me quite frequently.
MIchele and Linda, sorry it's taken me so long to reply! I think I just had my food stuck behind the freezer door for too long, with the Tillamook Mudslide ice cream and a really big spoon.
Michele, your idea sounds very sensible. Eating sensibly and exercising? Hope you lose last year's weight in a fun way, even if maybe you can't do it all until the outdoor summer season begins!
Linda, I totally can relate about junk food calling. I think I will take everyone's advice and enjoy what I really want to eat. But maybe that means eating two cookies, not eight.
