Kim Boykin: The Perfect Man

So what make the perfect man? Let’s examine gorgeous, restaurateur, Beck Hartnett, the hero in my latest novella, STEAL ME, COWBOY. And don’t worry, Beck, we’ll be gentle.

I don’t know about you, but I like my hero’s tall, and to be honest, I’ve yet to read a romance that began, “He was incredibly short…” Of course there are scads of lovely short men in real life, but we are talking fiction here.

I don’t have a preference for body type, but I like ‘em as “lean and muscled” as the next girl. As both a reader and a writer, I like to know how my hero’s jeans fit, where they hang on his hips, and again, we’re going for the lean hips. I have to believe if men read more romance novels, relaxed fit jeans would be a thing of the past. And would that really be such a bad thing?

Hair’s important in romance and says a lot about our hero. I’m a sucker for long hair and Beck pulls it off with hot cowboy look when he wears his down. And, Lord, have mercy, when it’s pulled back, you know he’s getting ready to woo his woman, Rainey Brown, with otherworldly food and wine.

I like my heroes to have a healthy attitude about their heroine’s eating habits. I haven’t read a romance yet that said, “He looked at her plate and said, “You’re not really going to eat all of that, are you?” No, our perfect man wants to meet all of our heroine’s needs, and always seems to understand the true meaning of comfort food.

Last but not least, one of the things I love most about Beck Hartnett is his sense of humor. Funny is sexy. Smart. And Beck has that in spades. So, what’s your idea of the perfect man? Do you like ‘em dark and brooding?  Is a rich hero in a story more interesting to you than a guy with a good job and a 401K? Do you like ‘em outdoorsy? Tough? Suave and refined?

I enjoy a tortured hero. I also like 'em alpha all the way. Their career isn't all that important to me, or income.

I loved Beck as well. So real. I like a guy who knows how to work with his hands. Doesn't matter if he is rich or not - but down to earth and real is important.

The perfect man is one with a great sense of humor including being able to laugh at himself; compassion for all including children and animals; happy inside or outside; and a true gentleman.

I apologize in writing I forgot to post my answer. I love cowboys, but I like then to be the old fashion type of gentleman, with just a touch of wildness in him, he wants to make his girl happy, [not put her on a pedistall /or spoil her] but genuinely make her happy, he wears blue jeans that fit, in all the right places, and western shirts with snaps not buttons. He can have long hair, as long as he takes care of it, and he's the type of man that when you are on his arm, he shows how proud he is to be with you. He is funny, but can have a serious side, and his idea of romance can be from a picnic, to a fine dining room, to dancing in the rain. Now that's my idea of the man I hope I could find someday. Sorry for the double post.

I love Alphas with respect. Cowboy, biker, fighter. Doesn't matter what he does as long as there is ink on his skin, tall & built.

Snork! Any hero who would ask such a silly question is no hero in my book! ;) A considerate, funny hero is ALWAYS a winner! Thanks for sharing, Kim!

I think a troubled heroine and a hero trying to make it right, keep her safe, or be protective appeals to me. There are so many stories about men needing to be "fixed" by a woman, why not flip the paradigm? Btw, I want the Southern Tiramisu Banana Pudding recipe, please!

I love alpha heroes... Strong men that are cocky, sexy, protective, yet need a heroine who won't give into them easily and will keep them on their toes... the relationship between the too is important... I don't really care for the fragile heroine who always needs reassurance.

Love an alpha hero who is willing to risk it all for the love of his life, When they try to resist their attraction to the heroine but the chemistry is just too hot to ignore.

I like a genuine honest man; one who loves you unconditionally and is 'into' the relationship. Sense of humor helps in many situations

Sharlene said...

Tall, dark & handsome, good sense of humor, alpha, good heart. I am more likely to go for a small town boy than a millionaire, but have liked both, depending on the story.

In real life, I married a laid-back, outdoorsy kind of guy with a great sense of humor. It's my favorite in romance novels, but I love any hero that's good to his woman! Banker, doctor, soldier, whatever. He can be alpha, but he can't be a jerk!

I like my book heros to be realistic - but just a touch 'more' tender, loving, funny, good-looking, etc. than maybe a real guy is. I don't particular care if they're rich or just modestly get by, if they've got dark hair and eyes or if they're fair, if hair is long or short -- just so they treat their friends kindly, justly, and 'right.
