Jane Graves: My Three Favorite Heroes

I spend a lot of time creating my heroes. After all, aren't they the reason we read romance? Over the years, I've found that mine usually fall into one of three categories:

1.      The Sexy Charmer. This hero generates all kinds of funny, sexy banter, and he thinks the only reason to live is to have a good time. This guy has enough charisma for two men, and just being around him just might make you swoon. He'll manipulate you into conforming to his wishes before you  know what hit you, but life with this man is never dull. If you like to laugh, he'll keep you entertained for the rest of your life. (Tony McCaffrey in TALL TALES AND WEDDING VEILS)

2.      The Confident Man in Charge. This hero thinks his way is the only way, and he has no qualms about running right over anyone in his path. He's the driven corporate CEO, the star athlete, or the military man on a mission. But this man is also a protector‑‑he allows no harm to come to the people he loves. (John Stark in HOT WHEELS AND HIGH HEELS)

3.      The Misunderstood Bad Boy. This hero has a chip on his shoulder the size of a concrete block. Reckless, cocky, and sexy beyond words, he carries a thousand hurtful secrets, secrets he intends to take to his grave. Somewhere in his life he has encountered a profound hurt that has made him distrustful of everyone he encounters, and it's only the woman who sees beneath his anger and bravado who can finally unlock his wounded heart. (Luke Dawson in COWBOY TAKE ME AWAY)

What kind of man is your favorite hero and why?

No matter the genre, my favorite hero is a man with a sense of humor, a conscience and true sensitivity to all of his loved ones. Why? Wouldn’t that kind of man make the best husband, brother or even friend? Wow!

I like a combination of the Alpha man with
Beta moments. Fifty-four years ago there
were no such designations, so after dating
two years we were married. He's a rascal,
is protective, and a "Honey." Now I know
what to call what drew me to him!

I like all of them. But "The Confident Man in Charge", who knows everything and will do anything he likes without anyone stopping him and then suddenly falls in love and gets completely clueless on what to do with his girl is what I favor above all.

I like a hero who doesn't feel like he needs to prove anything. He is noble and true, strong and intelligent. I want one!!
