Favorites with Jasmine Haynes

After all the Oscar hype, I’ve been busily putting all the nominated movies and performances into my Netflix queue. Okay, I’ll admit it, I’m a Netflix addict. My queue is about 130 long. I’m not sure I’ll ever make it through all those movies because I keep adding more faster than I can watch them (oh God, I just added two more!). I recently watched Slumdog Millionaire, this year’s Oscar best, and I loved it. I’ve got some old favorites out there in my queue and movies with some of my favorite actors or actresses that I missed along the way. And I’ve got a ton that I’m waiting to be released.

So let’s talk about our favorites. Most of my favorite movies are classics. If you’ve read any of my books, you’ll see that my characters love the old classics, too. However, of the stuff I’ve watched more recently, I’d pick as a favorite The Ulimate Gift with James Garner. This is a wonderful heart-warming family movie, and a tear-jerker. And I’m a sucker for James Garner from his Rockford Files days. My favorite actor would have to be Kevin McKidd. I fell in love with in the HBO series Rome where he played Vorenus. I loved him in the short-lived series Journeyman. Not so much in Grey’s Anatomy, though, sorry. My favorite actress would be Helen Hunt. I like pretty much anything she’s done, but my favorite would be Pay It Forward. I adored that movie, and I have it in my collection. And I’ll add my favorite TV show, too. Battlestar Galactica. We don’t have cable TV so we’re still waiting to see the last mini season (I just added that to the Saved queue), but this show really grabbed us (my husband and myself). As a runner-up, I loved the first season of Rome. And not just because of Vorenus (Kevin McKidd).

So those are a few of my favorites. What are yours? Post a comment and I’ll enter you in the drawing (you must type in your email address to actually be entered) for an autographed copy of my book Open Invitation. I’ll also add you to my newsletter for updates on all the fun stuff and releases, too.

Also I’ve got a special contest running this month that I don’t want you to miss. It runs through April 10th, and you can win a $50 Visa gift card. Here’s the link, it’s Fresh Fiction, and just follow the instructions! Good luck to everyone! http://freshfiction.com/contest.php?id=1682

The last movie I saw was Made of Honor with Patrick Dempsey and I really enjoyed that one. I like the classic movies like Gone With the Wind and The Godfather movies. Romantic comedies or family dramas are what I usually look for.

Great movies, Maureen and Crystal. And I love Patrick Dempsey, too. He was so handsome in Enchanted. And I think Kevin McKidd was in Made of Honor, too. He was the guy she was getting married to.

Kevin McKidd was great in Journeyman! Still miss that show.

I watch a lot of romantic movies, but I also like action. Some of my favorites are The Lake House, The Dark Knight, Chocolat and The Holiday.

I love "Rome," but I had a thing for Pullo. I like film noir and some of favorites are "The Big Sleep," "The 39 Steps" and "Rear Window."

I love Dirty Dancing, Sara. And Sandra Bullock, I've always liked her movies, too.

Helen, you don't have to watch newer movies. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is one of my very favorite musicals.

And Estella, True Grit was great!

Marie, I was totally bummed when they took Journeyman off the air. You know it was just starting to get really good, then bam, it was gone. I think the writers' strike did it in, but it had lots of potential.

Jane, I loved Pullo, too. My favorite episode was the one where he gets thrown into the gladiator ring and Vorenus comes to find him. And if you liked the 39 Steps and Rear Window, try Laura and Leave Her to Heaven.

Great movies you've all named!
