Ingredients for a Perfect Night - Donna Alward

It's not often that opportunities arise for perfect indulgences, but as a Romance writer I'm always thinking of perfect nights. I write home and hearth type books, so my "perfect" night often consists of maybe a dance in the living room after the kids are in bed, or capturing a sunset by surprise...you know, understated. For me, life's like that. But every now and again it's nice to pull out all the stops and that's what I've done for our anniversary this year. Here are my ingredients for a perfect night:

1. No kids allowed. Kids must be pawned off to lovely neighbours who will feed them junk and let them stay up too late on a school night.

2. Room booked somewhere that is not in a 50 km radius - and not just any room. A NICE room. A suite with a fireplace and jacuzzi and antiques. YES.

3. Dinner out. Nothing pretentious, please. A cozy corner in a pub with a glass of wine and good food will do nicely. The fact that we can walk to and from is a nice bonus as the fall colours should be stunning.

4. Flowers, champagne, and chocolate. The first 2 are guaranteed to be in the room and the last I'll handle.

5. No alarm clock...or dog needing let out...or kids thumping down the stairs. There is a MASSIVE difference between "waking up" and "getting up".

6. Breakfast cooked by someone other than me.

I suppose you could fill in some other blanks but I do believe this is a PG blog.

I'm looking forward to it lots - it's not often we get a chance to get away. And as this is our fifteenth, I thought we deserved it.

What's your idea of a perfect night with your special someone?

You've got it planned, Donna, though I'd add 'Crush The BlackBerry'. They can make life hell, though I can sort of see my oh's point when he says 'I either answer the mails as they come in, or face a backlog of dozens when I log in at 5am tomorrow morning.'
Happy anniversary - enjoy every minute!
