Finding Nicole's ability for Magic In His Kiss proved a bit more difficult. Since I'd used "sight" with Emma, I thought I should use "sound" with Nicole. Once I decided she needed to hear something or someone, the task became easier. Nicole is able to hear the voices of the dead, with the restriction that she only hears those spirits who haven't yet passed on to the afterlife. Such a spirit is her brother, who turns out to be a nasty pest!
All the while I was doing the research I wondered what it might be like to have a psychic ability. I dithered between thinking it might be fun, and being wary of finding out things I might not want to know. I've come to the conclusion that the one thing I would like to have is the ability to remember where I put something down. Like the cup of coffee I was carrying around, or the shoes I kicked off someplace, or the book I was reading, or my car keys.
To celebrate the release of MAGIC IN HIS KISS, I'm giving away an autographed copy of the book to someone who comments. Winner will be announced in the comments at about noon CST on Thursday, July 3rd. Y'all come back to see if you've won because I'll need your address

What an intenresting post. I had never thought about physic abilities in that way. That it would not just be a variation on a theme within families, but actually a variation of ability. Can you tell that I don't write paranormal?
Oh and I love that you are doing it as burden as well as a gift.
I don't usually write paranormal, either, but putting a touch of magic into an historical was rather fun! It just seemed to me that any special ability must be both a blessing and a curse. I think it worked out well for all of my heroines.
I enjoyed reading your post. I love the medieval time period, and adding a touch of magic sounds like it would make a wonderful story. I agree that any psychic ability would be a blessing and a curse. If I could create my own psychic ability, it would be to siphon energy from those who have too much and give it to me who sometimes has too little! ;)
Hi! I love reading historical and paranormal romance! Well, for me, I'd like to have psychic ability. Such as seeing things in the future. Though, I'd only want to see good things that happens and not the bad. Everyone needs some good news every so often. LOL!
I'd like to be able to see into the
future, but only seeing the positive things!

I can't wait to get my hands on this book... I've been waiting for it's release. :D
I never thought much about psychic abilities. I think it'd be cool if I could manipulate objects with my mind. Seeing into the future would be nice too, but like Allie, I'd only want to see the good things.
Cheri - I hear you about the energy. Some days I'd like to siphon off some of my grandsons' energy to replenish my own. That would make us about even :).
Wouldn't we all like to see ahead, but only see the good, the positive, the stuff we want to see? Hmmm. I wonder if it could work that way? But then, since we're dealing with fantasy here, we can have our cake and eat it too, so to speak :).
I would like to be able to read minds but only if I could control the ability and turn it off so that I wouldn't get everybody's thoughts.
If I could choose an ability, I'd want to be telekinetic. It would come in handy for me if something was out of my reach and it would make cleaning go faster.
I'm with Rachel. Telekinesis would be my power of choice.
It would be a mixed blessing for sure to have a psychic ability but I wouldn't mind the ability to know what numbers will be winning on the lottery tickets.
There aren't many physic abilities that I can think of that wouldn't be a double edged sword - a blessing and a curse. I think if you could see visions, they might not always be good things, if you could see into the future, you might not want to know some of the things you saw, etc. So I'm not sure I'd want an ability - unless I got to pick and choose what I could do...like you said, have my cake and eat it too.
I'm looking forward to reading Magic in His Kiss, it sounds like a wonderful story.
Looking forward to reading Magic In His Kiss.
I'm not sure I would like to have a psychic ability. Each one has a good side and a bad side.
Your fascinating post had me wondering about physic abilities. Being sensitive enough to envision certain things is powerful and can be an amazing talent. The paranormal and medieval romance intrigues me greatly.
I think I'd like to have the ability of being warned of bad things before they happen through dreams. That'd be just great:)
Oh, oh, do you remember the show Bewitched? Wouldn't it be wonderful to wiggle your nose and have the house cleaned, or supper cooked? I can't think of one down side to that!
