Allison Winn Scotch: The One That I Want

I just finished reading Allison Winn Scotch's new book, The One That I Want and absolutely loved it!  I know we all have loads of books on our TBR pile and so many more titles on our to-buy list but I think this one deserves some extra attention so if you're at the bookstore soon, I hope you'll pick it up.  It's fantastic.  Very entertaining and so insightful.  I got totally hooked into the story from the beginning.

What if you woke up one day to all your dreams coming true...but those dreams were more like nightmares?

Tilly Farmer is thirty-two years old and has the perfect life she always dreamed of: married to her high school sweetheart, working as a school guidance counselor, trying for a baby. Perfect.

But one sweltering afternoon at the local fair, everything changes. Tilly wanders into a fortune teller's tent and meets an old childhood friend, who offers her more than just a reading. "I'm giving you the gift of clarity," her friend says. "It's what I always thought you needed." And soon enough, Tilly starts seeing things: her alcoholic father relapsing, staggering out of a bar with his car keys in hand; her husband uprooting their happy, stable life, a packed U-Haul in their driveway. And even more disturbing, these visions start coming true. Suddenly Tilly's perfect life, so meticulously mapped out, seems to be crumbling around her. And as she furiously races to keep up with - and hopefully change - her destiny, she faces the question: Which life does she want? The one she's carefully nursed for decades, or the one she never considered possible?

I'm giving away two copies of Allison's book!  Just respond here to the following questions and I'll pick two winners in a few days.
What if you could see into the future? Would you want to know what fate has in store?

And if you get a chance, do stop by Allison's website (http://www.allisonwinn.com/ask-allison/) and check out the cool contest she's hosting in conjunction with her literary agent, Elizabeth Weed.  I think it will interest all aspiring writers since Elizabeth has generously agreed to accept submissions and read all of them as part of Allison's contest!  Good luck!

Wow! This book sounds fabulous. I know I should probably say something like "I want to see if I'll ever be published" but I have to be honest and say that I would look to see what the future holds for my two boys, and, if I'm there to enjoy it with them. I'm in good health but have been diabetic for 30 years and I often wonder what lies ahead - anyway, I want to live to be the mother-in-law from hell and to get my hands on my grandkids. It might be some time off as my boys are only 9 and 5, but you've got me thinking now!

I really don't want to know what lies ahead - but that's probably because I imagine it will be bad. Maybe it would be good...? Naaah, it'll be bad!

I would not want to know what fate had in store. Somehow, I suspect that if I tried to change the course of my future or that of a loved one, things would merely go awry in another way.

You've definitely hooked me.
I would not want to see into the future. I'd rather take each day as it comes.

I don't think I would really want to know what's ahead in the future, I guess if it was all good I would go for it but not the bad stuff! This books sounds great!

Part of me wants to know, but then reason comes in and I say no. I keep going back and forth on the answer.

I would love to know what lies ahead. I've often thought about what I would have done differently in the past had I known what was waiting for my in the future.

What a wonderful book which is unique and appealing. I have always believed in fate and destiny so I would love to know what lies ahead of us since it is always mysterious.

This book sounds amazing! I would love to read it!

I like to live each day to the fullest and with happiness. Knowing what is going to happen would make me very depressed. So, no thanks for me on knowing what the future will bring.

Hello Allison,

I've read your book: Time Of My Life & I loved it.
Don't wish to know what fate has in store. I would desperately try to change things I don't like into something better. Losing sight of what is right here, right now. If I want to enjoy the present I can't fear tomorrow.

Best,
Silvia

I think that I would like to know the future. If I or someone I loved only had a short time left before death, I'd spend more time with that person or I'd do things that I wanted to try, or visit before the impending doom came.

I'd live each day to the fullest!

Quite a relevant question for me at this point in my life. I lost my job last November, and I live in a very small town with few job opportunities. For me the question is not "how will I survive", but "will I survive". I'd like to know the answer so that I know how to try and make some definite plans for the future.

Knowing what awaits you can be terrifying but it would be a wonderful to know how everyone will manage after you have left for good.
