Carole Mortimer: Celebrating Milestones

It was two years ago last month that I clicked to ‘publish’ the pre-order for my very first Indie book, Christmas Alpha, with a publication date of December 8th. This month is the publication of Seduced by a Marquis, my 22nd Indie book, and also my 220th book.

To celebrate this milestone the first book in my Regency Unlaced series, The Duke’s Mistress, is now FREE. As is my very first Indie book, Christmas Alpha (Alpha 1).

It’s been a wild roller-coaster 2 years—and if anything I love Indie publishing more now than I did when I first decided to take that leap into the unknown. It’s been an amazing learning experience, but also one that I have found very personally rewarding. It has also allowed me to connect on a more personal level with my readers. Keep those emails coming, I love to hear from you!

So, what have I learned in the past two years? Well, I now know how to put the whole book together, because I am now the publisher as well as the author. I choose the publication date, and the cover picture, how that cover is going to look, and all of the content, front, back, and sideways. I also decide what series I am going to write, and how many books will be in that series. I’ve become adept on social media—something I never thought I would be.

I obviously have a great team to help me with all of this. My son Josh is my PR guy—couldn’t manage without him. My son Matt is my formatter—ditto. My US editor, Linda, and US copyeditor, Kim, are just wonderful. And then there’s the amazingly talented, Jo, also in the US, who designs my covers, memes, and website.

As you can see, what I’ve also learned the last two years is how to delegate!

I look forward to sharing many more of my Indie books with you in the coming months and years.

As always, the stories in my Regency Unlaced, Knight Security, and Alpha series are all romances with a dash of suspense and/or danger. They are also more explicit in their language and sexual content than my other books. In other words, they’re hot, so you have been warned!

Carole Mortimer: Regency Romances

Happy (slightly early) Valentine’s Day, Everyone.

I love Valentine’s Day. Even after all these years of being together, my husband and I always send each other a card. And somehow, each year, we manage to find that perfect one that says exactly how we feel about each other. Peter is my soul-mate, I am his. I truly hope that you have all found that in your own life too.

This month I thought I would talk about my Regency Romances, most especially my new series, Regency Unlaced. I’ve been a fan of the Regency since reading my first Georgette Heyer novel when I was 11 – what can I say, I was a precocious child! My very favorite Heyer novel is Regency Buck, and I tend to reread it once a year. Because of my love for reading books set in the Regency period, 1811-1820, in 2009 I decided I would like to write books in that period, as well as my contemporaries. I’ve now written 25 Regencies for Harlequin. And November 2015 saw the publication of The Duke’s Mistress, the 1st novella in my very own Regency Unlaced series.

An Author’s note: the novellas in the Regency Unlaced series are much hotter, and the language more explicit, than in my previous Regency novels. (I believe the “Unlaced” part in the title of this series speaks for itself!)

This above note is on the blurb to all the novellas in this series, because they really are steaming hot, and the use of language is applicable to the period too.

To my great joy, The Duke’s Mistress has been wonderfully received by readers – thank you so much for your emails and reviews, I really appreciate them. January 29th saw the publication of the 2nd novella in the series, Claimed by the Marquis (Regency Unlaced 2) and this has been just as warmly received. The 3rd novella, Taken by the Earl, is now available for pre-order, and will be published April 2nd.

There are links at the bottom of the blog to all three Regency Unlaced novellas.

So what’s coming up next, you’re probably wondering. Well at least 5 more Regencies before the end of 2016, the start of a new contemporary series, title Knight Security, and an anthology with 4 other great authors, coming out very soon. I will also be writing a Presents trilogy for Harlequin this year, due to be published 2017.

Somewhere in there I will also be spending time with my wonderful husband and family – oh, and sleeping occasionally too, I hope!

Have a great February,

Catching up with Carole Mortimer

Can you believe its Autumn already? Although a glance out of the window convinces me it is; it’s currently pouring with rain, which means I’ll be lighting a cosy fire later tonight. Nothing I like more than cuddling up on the sofa with my husband in front of a roaring fire. Usually to watch re-runs of NSIC starring Mark Harmon, but that’s another story!

October 4th saw the publication of Warrior Alpha the 6th book in my bestselling ALPHA series.

The hero of this sixth book is Nikolai Volkov. He has appeared in two of the previous books in the Alpha series, so fans of the series will already know him. Nikolai left Russia twenty years ago, barely surviving on the street of London for several months he then falls foul of the Russian overlord of London’s criminal underworld, Dimitri Markovic. Instead of punishing him, as Nikolai expected, Markovic takes the young man into his own family. Twenty years later Nikolai is head of security for the powerful Markovic family, and totally loyal to Dimitri’s son Gregori, the new head of this powerful Russian family.

Tough, hardened, more than capable of taking care of himself, Nikolai’s isn’t in the least impressed when Gregori hires Daisy Redmond to protect him from the assassins sent kill him. The attraction between these two opposite is instant and blazing hot, as they battle side by side in order to keep Nikolai alive.

The 7th book in the series, Rogue Alpha, to be released December 4th, is also now available for pre-order.

My cover design lady and I have now chosen and designed the first two covers of my new Regency series, Regency Unlaced. Hey, it isn’t easy drooling over all those Regency heroes and then having to decide which one is right for which story. The pre-order for the first story in the series, The Duke’s Mistress, is now available, with a release date of November 4th. The covers of this series are spectacular—thank you, Jo.

I am so excited about the launch of this new Regency romantic suspense series. It’s to be published alternate months with my Alpha series through 2016.

Indie publishing has given me the opportunity to spread my wings, to write more suspenseful stories, and steamier heroes and heroines, than my previous books. Not only that but I get to design the covers, choose my editor and proof-reader, plus the publication date. I go around the house saying ‘I have the POWER’ in my best superhero voice, at which time one of my sons usually pipes up with ‘what about dinner?’. No sense of occasion, that the problem with these young men!

Have a great October!
Carole
