Jennifer Faye: Digging Deep and then Going Deeper…

Hi. Thanks so much for having me. I’m really excited to share my new release with you. It is a very special story for me in many ways. And I’m thrilled to be able to share this story of love and forgiveness with others.
When I set out to write SNOWBOUND WITH THE SOLDIER, I knew some of the basic facts but not much more than that. I knew it would be a holiday romance. Then I started to think about the greatest gifts at Christmastime. And I’m not talking about the amazing electronic gadgets that Santa delivers or the packages wrapped in bright bows and colorful wrapping paper.

I think the greatest gift is family…love. But for there to be a loving relationship, there has to be room for forgiveness. Because as much I as love to think that I’m perfect (ROFL, gathers self and continues), my hubby could probably disprove this notion in a heartbeat. He keeps me grounded. ;-) So love is give and take, love and forgiveness, as needed.

I also knew that Jason and Kara had been engaged, but then Jason suddenly dumped Kara at a Christmas dance and left town. That’s not something you can easily overcome. There’s a song “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” which got me thinking that a person could go home, but it wouldn’t be easy…not after leaving so abruptly, swearing you’d never come back and being gone for seven years. I had to keep going, digging deeper.

I knew that for there to be a chance for renewed love between Kara and Jason there had to be compassion and understanding. And this meant digging up buried history and unraveling the woven strings of the past. That is never an easy task for anyone, especially with so many emotions and secrets tangled within those old gnarled knots.

Their story was a hot mess of why had this or that happen. And would they be courageous enough to trust each other with the secrets of their pasts…

"When you left Pleasant Valley, you swore you'd never return. So what happened? What finally changed your mind?"

His expression hardened. If he'd been expecting a warm welcome, he'd been sadly mistaken.

He shrugged. "Things change."

Well, most things did, and generally not for the better, but not in Jason's case. He hadn't gained so much as a beer gut or a receding hairline. Even the jagged scar on his face added to his sexiness.

Kara's gaze rose to meet his. At first glance, she thought his intense blue eyes were the same as she remembered, but a closer inspection revealed a hard glint in them. He no longer resembled the warm, lighthearted guy she'd dated for nearly four years. Or had he been that way all along? Had those rose-colored glasses she'd been wearing back then obscured his real character? Had she ever truly known him at all?

Jason hitched his thumbs in his jeans pockets. "I'm sorry about what happened between us. I handled it poorly."

"You certainly did."

"If I could explain, I would, but I can't—"

Do you like books that have secrets? As a reader, do you enjoy knowing the secret before the main character? What’s the last book that had a secret that had you flipping the pages to find out the answer?

Leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of Snowbound With The Soldier.

Maybe this Christmas…?
It has been seven long years since Kara Jameson last saw Jason Greene. Returning home as a wounded war hero, Jason looks a shell of the man she once knew. Yet her heart still skips a beat as if it was yesterday….
Stepping back into civilian life, Jason looks to Kara for help. But there's too much water under the bridge—not to mention too much lingering attraction.
But it seems that the mountain weather has other ideas, and when Kara and Jason end up snowbound together they are forced to confront the ghosts of Christmas past.

Jennifer Faye is a two-time RT Book Reviews TOP PICK author. Maybe that’s partly due to the fact that she has spent most of her life with her nose in one book or another. It was only natural that she dreamed of becoming a romance writer and spinning the tales of the imaginary people running around in her mind. But first life took her on a couple of detours. Refusing to give up on her dreams, she finally succeeded in getting her name on a book cover. She currently resides in Pennsylvania with her very, very patient husband, one amazing daughter (the other remarkable daughter has flown the coop to chase her own dreams) and two spoiled rotten cats. When she’s not glued to her laptop writing another contemporary romance (which isn’t often) or enjoying some family time, she loves to get lost in a good book, cross-stitch, embroider, quilt, knit, watch hockey (go Pittsburgh Penguins!), and garden. Jennifer loves to hear from readers--you can contact her via her website.

I'm sure that I have read many books with secrets in them, but I've drawn a total blank. I love that second cover. It's very sweet & beautiful.

I love Holiday books, and am looking forward to reading this one!

So many times, and it's cool with me. The truth is, I don't flip pages just to find out the answers to that "secrets". I feel like, I'm cheating, it's really silly. Anyway, I'm currently reading Lila Dipascua's "A Midnight Dance" a book full of secrets and revenge. :)

Love reading books that include surprises and twists/turns. Also enjoy books with stories around the holiday.

thanks for the fun post! I like secrets to an extent and it's great to know before some of the characters. But... as long as it doesn't get drawn out too much ;) Thanks for sharing!

I'm a massive Xmas nut & this story sounds like my cup of tea :) secrets can add a really interesting twist to a story, but i don't like to know everything up front. It's better to be surprised along with the character, that way you experience more of the emotions yourself, which i like.

Secrets in books always make for good reading. I don't really like to learn the secrets too early in the story. I like to be left guessing for a while.

I like secrets as long as they make sense to me. Sometimes you wonder why the H/h didn't let the cat out of the bag when given a chance, but usually the author is pretty good about holding the suspense (with seemingly good reason) until a later moment.
Can't recall the last book I read with secrets. In some ways, they ALL seem to have secrets, with some just bigger than others. I have read a lot of sheikh stories lately with big secrets kept till 3/4 or more through the story (usually by Olivia Gates, as I'm getting caught up on her books at the moment).
I am looking forward to reading this book, as well as Rancher to the Rescue. I didn't read the above excerpt, etc., as I prefer to not "taint" the story. You see, sometimes a book stays in my TBR pile for months and when I get to it, I think I've read it before but later realize I had only read an excerpt instead. I guess I want the "full-on" story instead....
