Jaymie Holland: Authors have Multiple Personality Disorder

Jaymie Holland is the new and very erotic alter ego of New York Times bestselling author Cheyenne McCray!

Did the title capture your attention?

One question that authors are often asked is why write with a pen name at all? There are a variety of reasons, including: the author’s real name is difficult to spell; the author has an odd real name; perhaps the author’s real name is too common and the name wouldn’t be as memorable; his or her real name is already in use by another author; the author’s real name is too similar to a famous person, past or present; the author wants something fun and different; or the author has a case of multiple personality disorder.

Kidding. Although sometimes one might wonder!

A lot of people have asked me about Jaymie Holland and why I am now writing under that pseudonym as well as Cheyenne McCray. Earlier this year I began writing romantic erotica as Jaymie and have been having a lot of fun with it. Although Jaymie has some paranormal novellas, much of what will come out will be very naughty contemporary novellas while Cheyenne’s is more paranormal romance.

Scary that I’m referring to myself in the third person…

As Jaymie Holland, I have four novellas and one novel available on Kindle, Nook, Smashwords, and your other favorite ebook retailers. For something fun for my readers, the four novellas are only 99 cents each—including my new “Taboo” series: Taking it Home, Losing Control, and Alluring Stranger. In just two weeks a collection of three novellas will be published, Taboo Desires. You can check out the beautiful covers on my gorgeous new website, http://www.jaymieholland.com/.

I am excited about what’s coming up next for Cheyenne McCray, too! You can check everything out on my website at CheyenneMcCray.com. I’d love to see you at Cheyenne McCray’s Place on Facebook and you can follow me on Twitter @CheyenneMcCray!

For fun, everyone who comments to this post will go into a drawing for a copy of my most recent Cheyenne McCray novel from St. Martin’s Press, Zombies Sold Separately!

Good luck!

The title did capture my attention. All writers must switch even if it's just perspective. Even within the same genre there must emerge different sides of the one person.

Hi Marybelle! It's sometimes hard to switch from one genre to the next. I've written romantic suspense, paranormal, and YA, and I have to stop one project completely to switch to the next because of mindset. I think most authors are good at switching POVs in our minds as we write, but many of us talk about the voices in our heads... That could lead to a straight jacket if it wasn't for the fact we're writers. ;

The title definitely caught my attention too! I think the multiple personality thing has a little truth to it. Whenever I've written I've always used a pen name. For me it was about my pen name being more confident than I to have their work exposed to everyone in the world and their critiques. It seems though that a lot of writers do have different names for their different genres and as a reader I appreciate that. I know if I like one genre to only look for that name and not the others.

Hi Chey/Jaymie,
I haven't had a chance to get the new book yet, so I'd love to win it.

Thanks,

That's a good point, Lolarific, and one I should have added. I know several authors who do just that, and my have 3 or 4 pen names to distinguish between the different genres they write for. I like the point about it giving the author more confidence, too!

Hi Lea Ellen! Good luck on the drawing!

I understand why authors taking on other pseudonyms for different genres they write but I admit that it doesn't matter to me.

CheyenneMcCray said...

I think a lot of readers would agree with you, Lil. :)

Thanks, Crystal! It's fun writing different genres. :)

A different name really helps to see what type of book it is. And it can also fit the genre better. So I'm all for it :)

Hi Jo's daughter. :) It can really help!

A-ha moment! I always thought authors
might be unusual to be able to write
in different genres. To be able to
carry on conversations with all the
characters running about in their
craniums!! Yet your photo shows such
a normal-appearing person with a sweet
smile!!!

Thank you for reading my books Estella! I hope you enjoy my Jaymie books too :)

LOL, Pat. Normal appearances can
be deceiving. *g* thank you!

I love the fact that authors use other names too, but at the same time sometimes it can be very confusing for a person who wants to read everything that the author has written, Ive had troubles finding certain books but at least most authors are nice enough to let you know that its still them.

True, Vixy, it can be confusing. And easy to forget sometimes. :)

I've been having trouble with Blogger, so let's see if it works now ....

The title did grab my attention and I have seen quite a bit of conversation recently about authors writing under different names. If that's what the author wants to do, I'm all for it. And, I'll buy the books if it's something that interests me.

I have read the Lexi Steele novels, the romantic suspense novels, and the armed and dangerous (hot, hot, hot) novels - and love them all.

Thanks for the heads up on the Jaymie Holland books at $.99 - will take advantage of that great price.

Thanks for the chance to win Zombies Sold Separately!
