Holiday Treats -- Susanna Carr

Peppermint bark. Eggnog Latte. Terry's Chocolate Orange. Everywhere I turn there is a just-for-the-holidays treat to get me in the Christmas spirit.

As a child, my tastes were simple. Give me a candy cane and I was happy. I loved finding chocolate in my Christmas stocking, but it was all about quantity over quality. My taste buds were unsophisticated for the fruitcake and my grandmother's homemade divinity. However, my mother made a delicious gingerbread. Pour a warm lemon sauce on the top and that tasted like Christmas to me.

Some of the holiday treats are special because of their rituals. I like baking cookies for Christmas and using the recipes that were handed down from one generation to another. I'm sure the recipes could be improved, but I wouldn't dare! Putting together the gingerbread house can be fun even if the results look like a condemned building. Sometimes it's the memories that make the holiday treat even better.

What is your favorite holiday treat?

Baking pies. I love to bake pies and it's been my job since I was a jr. girl scout and mom discovered I make a better pumpkin pie than she does and we use the recipe that was my grandmothers.I've added my own touches over the years and it's always a hit. And it doesn't come from a can either.

Well, we might have pumpkin pie, or cookies, or that poppy seed cake since I was a kid that I would only go to if there was nothing else. LOL Hey, I like it fine, but it's just not treat-ish enough. LOL I guess for the years immediately past, it's been more cookies than anything else. :)

Hi Susanna

A you all ready know I admire the work you do!!!

Christmas memories are the most important ,memories are what will last us a life time and even when we are gone others like our children will remember the memories you created for them and with them when you were still on earth.

Oh and Christmas cookies are a definite favorite that cant be forgotten !!

Merry Christmas to you and your family !!
