Ebook Adventures for the Technology-Challenged -- Susanna Carr

I wanted an eReader for quite some time and I finally got one! It's a Sony Reader Pocket Edition and I'm really enjoying it. OK, I didn't enjoy setting it up. That was a little ugly because I'm not good with technology. But once I got through that, the device has been great.

Right now I'm reading books on PDF files. It's not perfect. The pages break up, which can be distracting. I don't know if it's from importing the file to my Reader or because I increase the font size.

Does anyone have the answer? What electronic format do you use?

I don't have an e-reader yet so I have no idea about these things. I'm really hoping print books are here to stay. I don't think you can replace the feel of a good book in your hand.

I don't have an E-reader yet. I'm waiting for the price to hopefully get a little cheaper.

Linda, I still read print books! I'm learning my way around the ebook and bought some titles I can't get in stores, but I know what you mean. There's something about a print book that can't be replaced.

Rebekah, that's one of the reasons I didn't get a Kindle. I'm not paying that kind of money knowing that technology will advance in the next year or so and whatever I got would soon become obsolete.

I used to feel the same way but then I got a Kindle in Jan 2008. I rarely read a printed book now. They're too heavy to lug around! I can finish one book and start the next with just a few clicks.

Susanna - how does the PDF look on your computer? If the formatting is fine there, then it's the import to your device or the change in font.

I have a Kindle and I love it!

Kimknits - I haven't noticed the problem when I read PDFs on the computer. I think you're right. I guess I'm going to try a different format.

Estella - I know a few people who have a Kindle and they love it. One had a problem with the older version because every time he touched the side, it would turn the page. But I hear that the feature they love best is buying the book directly on the device. I can't do that with my Sony Reader

I don't have an ereader. If I do get an ebook I just read it on my computer. I'm really horrible with this kind of technology too, it took me more than a month to figure out how to download songs from itunes to my mp4 player. lol

I don't have an e-reader yet, for the same reason as other people are stating, because of the price. But as technology evolves, the price will come down, as everything does. I have published in e-book format, and I read e-books, but it's pdf for my computer, and mostly I print them out because I can't sit at the computer long enough to read them that way!

Oh! I forgot to say that you can download e-books from the library, too! At least you can from my library system. Check it out in your area!

Susanna, I've had ebook reader for over a year and I love it. I live in the UK so buy books from mills and boon website and waterstones and the format seems to be epub. Ebook has taken a little bit of getting used to as I'm not too technical, more the computer glitches etc. However taking it on holiday last year instead of taking 20 books (my normal!) was fab.
