A Change of Pace - Karen Anders

My first few Blazes fit into the line as it was defined. Relationship stories with a sexy premise. But, as inevitably happens, the authors who write for the line have defined it because creativity knows no bounds.

I started off with relationship stories that progressed slowly toward what I want to write now—action/adventure and romantic suspense. My first book in my Undercover Lovers series, Up Close and Dangerously Sexy started me on the path towards that goal. Now Dangerous Curves, the second book in the series, releases this month.

In Dangerous Curves, DEA Agent Rio Marshall has one mission. Distract Max Carpenter. She’s told that he is the very fly in the ointment that can blow a deep undercover operative’s carefully designed disguise. She’s been hired to keep him occupied any way she can and Rio has always gone to the max to complete every assigned mission. Max Carpenter doesn’t stand a chance of surviving her special brand of expertly concealed weapons. Max believes she is the only living being to have seen The Ghost’s face, a dangerous arms dealer, turning her into a moving target. Determined to save her, Max follows orders, until someone comes gunning for Rio and they are on the run.

The last book in the series, Deliciously Dangerous is out in April 2010. Now let me hear from you. Do you like to read all the books in a series at that same time and will wait until they’re all released or do you like the torture of waiting for the next book? I will give away to one poster an autographed copy of Dangerous Curves.

Thanks for the opportunity to blog with you!

I love the torture of waiting for the next book to be released. Unless I started the series somewhere in the middle then I have to go back and find and buy the books I missed.

That's a very good question Lee.
Well , I'd say I WISH I could wait till all the books are released before reading them (because the waiting can be unbarable sometimes ;-), but I'm a weak person and usualy buy the books as soon as they come out, even if I know how frustrating the it's going to be !!lol

Congratulations on your release !!

I'm the type of person that buys the releases as they come out, even tho it's torture. I can't wait to read the next book, so I can't wait and stockpile them. I'm a greedy reader. lol! Thanks for commenting gigi and Emmanuelle.

I would love to find all the books and read them at the same time. But I am in the middle of reading several different series of books and can't wait until the next one comes out. I would have to wait years for all of them to come out and then read them...and that would be torture.

I can't keep myself in suspense for too long! If I start at the beginning of a series, then I will buy each entry as soon as it's released. If I pick up a good series after the first one or two entries have been released, then I will go back and try to collect the entries from the beginning. Congrats on the new release. I like being able to read the whole series at the same time. I sometimes wait until all the books are out before starting book one. Other times I torture myself by reading the first book knowing that the next book won't be out for a while.

Karen Anders: Thanks for the insight into your writing and for your question.

If I find a series I dig, I can wait until the next installment is released. That's because I have plenty else to read. And to write---yes, I'm one of THOSE, a reader who aims to write professionally.

I've noticed that the romance fiction market is geared more and more to series novels. That brings up a question I have for you and other pro writers. What effect has this trend had on your life as a writer? Is it easier? Harder? Both?

I like reading all the books one after another, but that only ever happens if I find the series after all the books have been published.

I hate waiting. Hate it, hate it, hate it. So whenever an author I love starts a series, I promise myself that I'll wait until the whole thing's been released before reading it.

And then I go to the store and see the first book and it's just so pretty... so I buy it. But I promise I'll keep it in my TBR pile until the series is complete.

And then it sits there, looking so interesting, and I promise myself I'll just take a peek and then put it back down... except that I forget that promise until I've finished the book and am dying for the next one in the series.

I looove series! :) Love revisiting characters and knowing who's coming next and all that great stuff. For me, I save them when there is a consecutive month release of a series; meaning if there is a trilogy that one book is coming out this month, the next next month and the last the following, I save them. If not, I read it when I get it, but then reread it when the next one comes out. Since I reread all the time, and I loved it the first time around, I certainly don't mind reading it again; but I usually don't remember what I read that long ago, so I need the refresher for the new one that I read right after! :)

I love series books, it allows us to check back on the characters we enjoyed from the previous books. I have to admit, I like to have them all before I read them. Or if I can't do that, I prefer them to come out back to back. I hate waiting months for them.

If I pick up a good series after the first one or two entries have been released, then I will go back and try to collect the entries from the beginning. Such was the case with Sandra Brown's 'Texas Trilogy' series; I started in the middle.

Hi!
I too can wait until the entire series is in my hands before starting page one of the first book. I prefer having them all on hand so that I can go back and check details in previous books. (I'm anal that way, apparently.)
I too don't feel it is torture because I read hundreds of books each year. Actually, I've read thousands and thousands in the past 35 years.
I never used to read series but have only become aware of them through blogging. I read book #2 and then #3 of one series, but I kept going back to #2 all the time. And of course I wish I had book #1 too! I'm keeping the two books, though, until I get the first one to complete the series, as I just know I'll jump back and forth between the books!

Hi there Karen!

Congratulations on your new book! As for waiting for the next book in a series to come out that sure is hard but I can wait. If an author puts books out in a different genre, line, or as an in-between book, I will buy it to hold me over until the next book comes out.

I like the torture of waiting for the next book to release. I can't wait while collecting all the books in a series to start reading.

I love series, and I will read a series after gathering at least 2-3 books before starting it. The waiting is tortuous enough for a final book of a series.

I love reading series. I like to read them together but if I have to wait to read one of the books later I will just as long as I have it to read.

Laurie G said...

I'll read them in a row or spaced out. Hopefully not too far apart!
I don't think I've ever had them all at hand.
I like series books to be able to stand alone!

I read them when they come out so sometimes I have to go back to re-read the older ones.
