It's The Time of the Season. . .

Time of what season? Well, it's summer now - not officially but past Memorial Day so it counts -- and that means. . .it's time for summer anthologies and hot romances!

I realized what publishers already knew -- certain times of the year are better for reading short romances. Have you seen the shelves? The list of upcoming releases? There are SOOOOO many holiday and seasonal romance anthologies scheduled for not only Christmas-time but also the summer. June Brides, hot summer beach reads, both long and short, fill the shelves. My own TBR is filled with them, too.

Even though for some, summer means more time to read and more time for relaxing, it's not my 'slow time'. So, those anthologies are great! I can read a whole story in a short time and still have time to work, shop, write, and all those other things expected of me. And then, when I have another bit of open time, there's another whole little romance waiting for me! I love it!

And then, just when the weather gets hot. . . the romances get hotter! Is that because we're already sweating and fanning ourselves so publishers figure it's a good time for those? I was just browsing through the latest RT magazine and wow - it looks like there are some steamy romances coming out in the next couple of months. I guess I'll have to save those for when I'm near a pool or on the beach so I can run or jump in to cool off as needed? LOL!

So, do you fall for 'hot' summer romances? Do you read shorter books during the summer (or other times like Christmas)? More importantly, which hot or shorter romances are you looking forward to reading this summer? I have a set of my Highlander trilogy -- being published in the UK this summer -- for one lucky random poster.....

Terri has both a short and a hot romance coming out this summer! Her Harlequin Historical UNDONE! short story will be available online on June 1st -- A Night for Her Pleasure introduces readers to the Knights of Brittany, Terri's hot sexy medieval heroes. Then in July, the first full-length story The Conqueror's Lady hits the shelves to continue the story. Hi Terri

Here in Australia the weather is cooling down and it is my favourite time of the year.

As for reading long or short stories I love them all but I do agree that for me anyway I am always really busy around Christmas time and the shorter stories are probably better for me because once I start reading I don't want to put it down and then I would get nothing sone LOL

Congrats on the new releases they have been added to my must get list and have a great summer

I must confess I enjoy the Christmas ones more. It seems such a special time to have a little time to oneself - and as I don't really like heat, I read the Christmas ones in the summer to cool myself down!

Hi Terri,
I read across the board and different levels of sensuality throughout the year. Once in awhile, I'll have a desire to read a hotter book, but then, others I'll pick up a Love Inspired. I believe that readers tend to follow certain genres, but I also believe they're diverse. Am I right? Wrong? Who knows. As most things, I follow my instinct.
Always great seeing you, and congratultions on your latest release. I'm always a huge fan! *Hugs*

Welcome Terri!

I am a big fan of reading all kinds, all lengths, hot or cold, rain or snow! Shorter books are nice when I need to get to sleep at a certain time. Longer books are harder for me to put down. Therefore, I reserve those for times when I can read to my heart's content. So, to answer your question, I love them all!

Ooo...congratulations on your new books! How exciting! Have a great week!

Hi Terry. Congrats on your up-coming releases. I like the summer months for reading - especially my 2 weeks holiday - Benidorm here we come! DH and I have a little ritual when it comes to holidays - we always go to the airport early and have "airport money" where we spend it on what we want in the duty free. But for me it straight to WH Smith and as many books as I can possibly buy to read by the pool! Take care. Caroline x

I <3 summer books and anthologies!! You can stay out later, no bad weather...I don't know, I just enjoy the stories more.

Not to say I don't enjoy a good winter book, but summer ones make me happier. :D

Hi Terri,
I am such a fan. Congrats on your 3 upcoming releases this summer. I can't wait. And everyone who knows me, knows my first love are Scottish Highlanders. I love a man in a kilt. :)When it comes to my reading I'm fortunate that my 7 children are all raised and that gives me all the time in the world to read any length book I want, when I want. I love it. So nice seeing you here.

Helen --

I completely forgot about the upside-down seasonal schedule down in Australia...I actually love the cooler times of the year so I'm envious of you.

I, too, love the Christmas anthologies. I begin buying them in October and stockpile them for those stolen moments during the holidays when I can sneak in some reading time...

I seem to do that, too - always head for the bookstore at the airport for a new book for the flight. Not that I need that as an excuse....! LOL!

I always buy a book at the airport, too; I travel to Orlando several times a year to visit my grandchildren, so it's become a tradition to buy a good book to read on the plane.

When I was in between marriages (18 years) I took two-week beach vacations each summer. I took along (or bought when I got there) a book for each day; I'd sit on the beach and read all day, then after dinner I'd read till early in the morning.

I'm a hot-weather worshipper, so any hot summer book is perfect for me!

I usually read a little of everything throughout the year it doesn't matter what season. We are working on my kitchen right now and I haven't had a chance to pick up a book all week (crying here). Highlander books are one of my favorite reads.

Oh Highlanders, I can read them any time, lol.
If there is a book I want I read it and make the time to read it, even if it is in short spurts here and there.
But I do like the shorter ones that can be finished in a couple of days if I'm into sitting outside on the swing in the shade or if I have spare time at work at night.
