Tax season is upon us - Ann Roth

If you're like me, you'd rather suffer through a root canal than fill out dreaded tax forms. Yet, long ago in another lifetime, I loved crunching numbers, loved filling out those forms. So much so, that for several years during tax season I worked as a tax preparer. I also enrolled in a graduate program to earn my MPAcc-MBA (Masters of Professional Accounting and MBA), with an eye on taking the CPA exam.

But after a grueling summer when I completed six accounting classes in ten short weeks, I realized that I no longer wanted to be a CPA. I dropped out of the MPAcc part of the program and ended up graduating with an MBA.

Now my husband and I hire a CPA who keeps up with tax code and forms. For months every year he works long hours, seven days a week. Doesn't seem like a sexy job, does it?

Unless the CPA happens to be Carter Boyle, the hero in Ooh, Baby! Okay, the job will never be sexy. But Carter's pretty darned hot. Lily Gleason, who hires him to help with her audit, certainly thinks so. I'd love to share their story, which I truly enjoyed writing but I'd rather you read the book.

What about you-do you prepare your own taxes? If so, do you enjoy it?

Until later and wishing you an IRS refund,
Ann

I don't think I've ever read a story about an accountant but it sounds like a good one.

The book sounds great. I finished my taxes, sent them in, and even received the refund. Not that it was anything to brag about, but hey it'll buy more books. :)

Also waving at Lisa Dale and thanking her for stopping by my blog.

Love this one and will be adding it to my must check outs.

Sounds like a great book.
I used to prepare our taxes until they started changing everything. Now I take them to someone else.
LOL

Kimmyl- I'm with you!

Helen- I'm sure the tax preparers love that we use them.

Honey is a very mathematically-
minded person, he does our taxes
each year! I told him he cannot ever leave this house, who would do the taxes? He reminded me that our son-in-law graduated with double majors in the business area, has a Masters in Business, and has been trained as a tax preparer! I said, "WHOOPS!" LOL

We are not smart enough to do our own taxes, so we pay someone else!

Pat- With Honey and that son-in-law, you got it covered!

Cheri2628- See, I don't think it's a question of smarts, I think it's whether you're interested in learning and keeping up with tax code and changes. And you and your dh aren't.

I am an accountant but I have a lady do my taxes that has done them for my parents and grandparents. She has done mine since I was a kid. I am way too paranoid that I would mess them up. My friend just got a letter in the mail for her 2007 taxes that she owes 4000.00 back. The book sounds great :)

Wow, mamakim- An accountant not doing her own taxes? That's fascinating. But if you're not a TAX accountant, it also makes sense.
