Christmas in August - Susanna Carr

Do you have trouble reading a holiday book when it's nowhere near that holiday? The other day I picked up a Christmas romance from my pile of unread books. At first I considered putting it back in the pile because I didn't think I would be in the right mood for it. But then I decided I might as well and started reading it.

I liked the book and the Christmas theme wasn't distracting or overwhelming even though that holiday is months away. I noticed the book didn't get me in a festive mood—that always seems to happen when I read a holiday book during the holidays!

So what about you? Can you read a holiday book when it's not that holiday, or do you avoid those books until it's the right season?

It is hard to read a holiday book for me unless it's is close to that holiday. But I guesss if I read it anytime of year, it could bring fun thoughts, I'll try it. :)

Actually, I usually don't pick up a book that has a holiday theme until it gets closer to October. . . and by then, I do save them until December to read. But if was now or earlier in the year, I'd still read it. . . just alas, hasn't actually happened to me at this point! LOLOL :)

I don't really pay any attention to a seasonal aspect of a story. If it is looking me in the face yelling 'Read me next'...I will! I am at the mercy of my books..they rule!!

I read books at any time of the year, and it doesn't bother me. I just finished an antholgy called "Christmas Weddings", and thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't put me into the holiday season either, it was just 3 really good stories. It was one that was in my TBR stack and just caught my eye.

As long as the book is good I can read it anytime. Holiday or no.

A good book can be read at any time of the day, week or year as far as I am concerned. A good story makes me feel happy and I like that feeling no matter when and the more often the better.

Seasonal themes have absolutely no
effect whatsoever on my reading. A
book is a book is a book! I just
love reading!

I don't pay much attention to whether the book has a seasonal theme or not. If it is next on the pile I read it.

I don't normally pick up a Christmas book out of season, but sometimes I do. I just grab whatever seems to call me from my TBR pile.

But I'm writing my first holiday themed story right now and writing about Christmas in the morning and going for a dip in the pool in the afternoon is a little weird. LOL

I usually read holiday books around the particular holiday. I read a lot of Christmas books, especially anthologies, every Christmas. I don't think, however, if I read a book during a non-holiday time that it would keep me from enjoying the book. A good story is good no matter when you read it!

I'm not dictated by seasons, so I can read a holiday book at anytime. However, if I need a pick me upper, I will choose a book based on its settings.

I can read holiday books any time. In the summer I usually read them on really hot days, it helps me forget that I don't have A/C. LOL
