Five years down the track... Trish Morey on the anniversary of *that* call

It's my anniversary tonight - five year's since getting the call from Harlequin Mills & Boon's Richmond office, five years since discovering that after 11 years in the unpublished wilderness, I was going to achieve my dream of being a published author. And what a five years it's been!

Much to my delight (and surprise) they took another book after that first, and then another. Since that fateful evening, I've written another thirteen books for Harlequin Presents and every single sale is a pure celebration. I don't think that thrill ever goes - at least I hope it doesn't because it sure makes up for all the worrying while I'm waiting to hear from my editor!:-)

Five years on and life is a little different in the Morey household. The day job is gone (mine at least - hubby is still waiting for his turn and methinks he might be waiting a little while more. He lives in hope:) The kids are five years older too. Not such little kids anymore and getting more independent by the day. Though more demanding in other ways - I'm sure my tween age social life wasn't a patch on theirs!

And there's all sorts of wonderful and wondrous things about being a published author, from the sheer joy of seeing your book on the shelves, to the fun of receiving translations through the post and the uplifting emails from readers who've loved your books.

But one of the very, very best things about being a romance writer is the friends you make, in the writing group in your home town, the people you meet at conferences interstate, the friends you make on line in writing and reading communities and blogs like this one, the friends you make overseas, in countries so far flung that you would never have met these people otherwise.

Romance writing does that. It brings people with a love of reading and writing romance together and it forms bonds stronger than supaglue.

It's been a great five years of reading and writing and making and meeting friends. Here's to friends everywhere and here's to making many more!

Watch out for Trish's next release, The Italian Boss's Mistress of Revenge, out in North America this coming August!

Oops! My post is showing up as the 17th! It's 6pm down here on the 18th and I thought the 18th would have clicked over up there by now too.

Apologies for sneaking in early!

Hey, Trish, huge congratulations on your five year anniversary. And haven't you given us some marvellous reads in that time? I still remember the first book of yours I read and going, WOW! May there be many more in the pipeline!

Is it five yers since we celebrated your joining the family of M&B authors by throwing wine at each other in New York? It bseems like you've been part of my life for ever (and I mean that in the nicest possible way!)

I totally agree with you about the friends that you make in the romance community (include yuorself in there, too, Anna) Can't wait to see you again in SF and London - but lets try to jeep the wine in the glasses this time, hmm?

Hugs of congratulation

Kate

Hey Anna, lovely to see you here, have a piece of cake. I made it myself :-)

And thanks so much for remembering The Greek Boss's Demand! It probably comes as no surprise to you that I kind of remember reading your first book and going, WOW, too. Then I read your second and went Double WOW! So looking forward to your next, and to catching up in July and August at the US and Aussie conferences.

Dear Kate, amazing to think it's five years since that fateful night in NYCity where they had to change the tablecloths how many times?

What an initiation into Harlequin Presents! Can't think of a nicer person to spill wine with. Or drink it with for that matter.

Let's see how well behaved we can be in San Fran!

Eat up everyone, there's more cake to go round...

Hmm, the wine fight sounds like fun! Are you SURE you won't have another one in SF so I can join in? Kate, thanks for those lovely words. And Trish, thanks for your lovely words! All jokes aside, you've always been on of my most supportive friends and I'm pleased as punch that it's your five year anniversary!

Trish, CONGRATS!! I still remember when you sold--you were one of the very first of our Golden Heart class of 2003 (Wet Noodle Posse) to sell, and I remember just being in awe of you. What an amazing five years!

Thanks for continuing to write such terrific stories and also being such a great mentor to me and others. You're one in a million!

*big hugs*
Jennie

P.S. Like Anna, I'm sad I missed that wine fight. How about another in SF? Although wine is getting so expensive... hmmm.... how 'bout cream pies?

Anna and Jennie, we'll just have to see what we can do in SF! When one gets to gether with other writers, anything can happen:-) And speaking of being in awe, Jennie, look at what you've achieved since we last got together in Reno! A gorgeous young family and all those gorgeous book babies as well. Now that is awesome:-)

Cheri2868, thanks so much for dropping by and adding your congratulations and good wishes! How can anyone not make friends in such a warm community like ours? We are blessed.

And thanks also to Pat! I hope you enjoy The Italian Boss's Mistress of Revenge. This book is a bit special to me because I actually managed to get just a little taste of where I live - just a taste and admittedly a fog shrouded taste - but it was lovely to be able to celebrate something of the region where I live in one of my books.

Yay, Trish. Five wonderful years!

You know, I've read all of your books and I love them. I'm looking forward to another 5 years worth of Trish Moreys and another and another. Just keep 'em coming please!

Hope you're celebrating this grand achievement with something special at your place.

Big hugs,
Annie

LOL, I sure am Annie, I'm celebrating by biting my nails down to the knuckles waiting and a-hoping on this latest revised ms that's gone in. The longer I wait, the surer I am of "just a few more tweaks".

Nothing ever changes in this business, I'm sure, no matter how long you've been published.

Thanks for posting your congrats, fellow Presents gal!

Congrats Trish on your anniversary.

Trish, what a lovely anniversary to have! Congratulations and may there be many more of them and even more delicious Morey books with scrumptious Morey heroes. Love 'em. Oh that Koutoufides... sigh. And your Pearl master one with the ladder to the moon -- ever since I've been dying to go to Broome and see it for myself.
Celebrate well -- we'll make do with cyber cocktails all round until we meet up again and celebrate in style.
cheers
anne

Anne, I really loved the pearl book in Broome as well--what was the title of that one? A Virgin for the Taking? The description was so evocative. I definitely hope to see Broome someday. It seems like a verrrrry sexy place.

Um...don't mind us, Trish...just chatting about your books as if you weren't even here. ;) The Trish Morey Book Club meeting will now come to order! hehe

Thank you Dina! Lovely of you to flutter by:-) And Sher too, thanks so much for your congrats. They say time flies when you're having fun and hanging around with writers is definitely fun.

Anne Gracie, how lovely of you to drop in! And Jennie again! Ah, I loved that pearl book too. The research was fabulous and Broome is just the most amazing place. And that Stairway to the Moon - oh, you gotta go see that. Simply magic!

Trish Morey said...

Anyone spot my obvious mistake? Yes, that should have been - hanging out with romance readers and writers is definitely fun:-))

Ah Trish, I'm with you on the nail biting revision wait. Literally! Fingers crossed for both of us.
