Really, I didn't think I had an addiction. I thought I was fine, that I could handle my e-mailing and surfing. But then a big storm hit on Friday. And my Internet access went down. I've been without it for 48 hours. Oh my God. I was freaky. What's going on? I can't look at the traffic reports, or the weather reports. I can't talk to my friends or read my loops or check out my favorite blogs! All the while, I was chewing on the inside of my cheek wondering about the e-mails I was missing. What utterly important thing did I NEED to know that I didn't know because I had no e-mail!!!???
So I now realize that I am addicted to my Internet, my e-mail and my cellphone. When did this happen? 10 years ago we didn't even have Internet at home, I only used it at work. And I only got my family cellphone plan about 3 years ago. How have these instruments become so important in so short a time? Gosh, I can't even go to the grocery store now without calling up my husband on the cellphone and asking him to check the fridge to see if we need milk.
Honestly, what did we do before Internet and Cellphones? It was truly the dark ages. Are there any other addicts out there? Please don't tell me I'm the only one.

No, You are not alone... ROFL I was reading this post and nodding. I always call when I am on the way home from work to ask my husband if we need anything. Also Sunday is the day the kids are usually banned from the computer because it is my day.
Jasmine, you're so not alone. I'm addicted to the Internet too! I can't go a day or heck, hours without checking my email or my blog, it's sad really.
No you are not alone in this. I find that I am addicted as well. And the cellphone - when I am out I am always on it asking my Mom if she needs this or that. I have a friend who doesn't bother to call on the actual phone anymore, just uses email. And what about all the text messaging that goes on as well. I thankfully have not learned to do that, and have no intention of doing so, this is bad enough......lol
You see, it's insidious! And I forgot about the text messaging. I'm sure our young people will end up with deformed thumbs from all the texting! Luckily I haven't succumbed to that yet! I shudder to think how much time I'd spend doing that, too!
However, there is one good thing. I do think I actually stay in touch with friends and family more that I ever used to before. Hah! A benefit!

No we all are addicted to the internet. We have had internet for years but I didn't get addicted until about this past year. I find myself even when I'm in the middle of cleaning my house I will be at the computer checking my e-mail. I just can't seem to leave the computer alone. In the past I just couldn't see how my hubby could spend so much time on a computer, now I know.
HELP I am an addict.
I can't believe we survived without Google. I remember when we researched with encyclopedias and other reference books. You don't have to leave your house for anything. You can order groceries online and have it delivered to your house.
Addiction? Internet yes, Cell phone no. We only have a cell because daughter #2 got it for our use in case of emergency. It only is on when we are out of the house. We only accepted it because we got tired of hearing, "Where were you? I was trying to call you!" Oh well, she is just trying to take care of her "elderly" parents!

Oh yes, and then there's Google! Totally addicted to that as well. How did we research before!!??? However, I have found you have to verify info in several different places because there are no controls on what people put out there.
And the cell phone, before I had unlimited minutes, I hardly used. But boy, the family plan, now I talk all the time! I have to remind myself I need to get those pages written today, and I'm always rushing to make them at 3:00 in the afternoon!

I agree with you! I feel like I'm cut off from the world if I can't get on the internet.
It is so hard not tobecome addicted to it, it is your friend and connects to yourreal friends. :)
Since I work at home, being on the internet and email is my connection to the outside world. As you say, Dina and Maureen, it's my connection to my friends. And isn't it amazing how we all know people who live thousands of miles away, even different countries! The world has become a more accessible place!
Hmm, so maybe addiction isn't so bad!

I would never be able to find my way anywhere without the internet. I am one hundred percent addicted.
I am totally addicted to Internet... mostly blogs!
I confess... I am addicted to both my cell-phone and my laptop!!
I am on vacation in Palm Springs. Sun, beauty, fun. But me, I had to bring my computer so I could check my emails!!!! My mother is complaining that I'm on the computer instead of enjoying the sun. This is addiction! Glad to know I'm not alone, though.
