Inside the Writing Life for Lucy Monroe

Is there anything sexier than a super studly, oh so stubborn Scottish laird? I sure didn't think so when I was writing Annabelle's Courtship. (Well, okay, *maybe* dh, but that's it! LOL) The thing is I had so much fun with this book, writing it just for me. Not for a deadline, not for a particular publisher, just because I'd dreamt up these characters and could no more hold back from telling their story than I could from breathing. Writing is like that for me, absolutely necessary.
I never realized how much so until this past year when some health issues made it difficult to concentrate on my stories. I'm not a super nice person when I don't write and I've got a husband and houseful of teenagers who will verify that for you without blinking an eye. :) They will also verify that to interrupt me when I'm writing the black moment is a very bad thing, but dh doesn't mind the consequences of certain types of scenes and I'm sure you know what they are. Yikes...did I really say that? I guess I did. LOL

And there were times writing Deal With This (Nov 27th release) that I laughed out loud and man, my family appreciated that mood. :) Dh also got some special time 'cuz you know Alan and Jillian are a bit flamboyant and theories have to be tested and all that. But I'm not just talking about gasp...can I say it? SEX...I'm talking about EMOTION too. You've no idea how many discussions I've had with my own wonderful alpha hubby over a hero's motivations and actions. Ian from Annabelle's Courtship and Alan from Deal With This are no exceptions. I won't tell you which one he identified with most easily, but I will say that many things may change over history, but certain truths about alpha men are not on that list. :)

I've got a question for you all though, Annabelle's Courtship came out first as an eBook (it'll be in print in the Fall of 08) and Deal With This will naturally come out in print first and electronic format shortly thereafter. What I want to know is, do you read eBooks and if so, do you read them when available by print authors, or do you have certain authors you buy exclusively in electronic format? I know that I tend to buy a whole set of autobuy authors in eBook and another set in print and then there's a group I insist on having both editions of - for different types of reading (in bed at night versus in the hot tub, you know...lol).

Hugs,
Lucy

P.S. I love to give away prizes, so one winner randomly drawn from the comments on this post will receive a personalized signed ARC for DEAL WITH THIS.

Heck, yes- I'd love this book! I don't care what kind of format a book is in- ebook, regular book, printed out, handwritten. See- I'm not really choosy about HOW I get my books, as long as I get them!!!!

Both covers look hot!

I prefer print books first. My eyes get tired when I read ebooks.

I enjoy print books, mainly because i love the feel of a book. I have quite a few ebooks. It seems alot of authors and publishers are leaning that away and i can understand the difference in the cost of the two. I lovvvveee the cover!!!

I prefer print books because I like to lounge in a comfortable chair. I do have some ebooks, but reading off the computer tends to tire my eyes.

Love the covers on both your new books.

I prefer print books, I haven't found an easy way to mark my place on Pdf format yet. Someday maybe I'll change but right now I'd rather have the print copy.

I love your cover..
I have only read print books, but who's to say I wouldn't like ebooks.
Congratulations

Reading is completely sensory for me, so I prefer print books versus ebooks. Not to mention, I don't have an ebook reader and system at my computer that long trying to read something just gives me headaches.

Hello Lucy,
I do read ebooks but I really prefer print books because I can take them anywhere with me. I am a HUGE fan of your books and I read everything I can get my hands on!

Hey, all. :) Thanks for commenting...I do think have an eBook reader makes a huge difference in the "experience" of reading an electronic book. I'm just glad we have both e and paper books out there 'cuz I love 'em both.

Big hugs on the compliments on the cover(s)...I love them too! And thanks for reading my books - it's always, always, ALWAYS a blessing to heart that. :)

Yep, another one here who prefers print. LOL :) I have a few ebooks, but I just simply prefer print -- when I want to get off the computer, I really want to get off the computer, whether that's my laptop or pda. Just like reading them, feeling them, walking into a bookstore and being surrounded by them. Yep, print. :)

I like the print books too. I tend to read whenever I can - waiting for my kids' practice to get out, doctor's appts., etc. It is easier just to pop open a book.

I wonder who makes the decisions to put a man, a woman, or both on the covers?

It is easier for me to read print books since I don't always have access to a computer.

I can only sit so long at the computer so I like print books better. You can carry them around with you.

I do like to have a book in hand most of the time just for the feel of it, but I do get on an ebook kick every once in a while. For me the biggest flaw in ebooks, however, is ebook authors aren't nearly as good as print authors, with very few exceptions. I've found a few ebook authors that I've loved, but most are only ho-hum. I'm hoping that changes more and more with time!

BTW, I just finished Moon Awakening, Lucy, and absolutely loved it! I am so looking forward to the rest of the books in this series!

I love print books. I enjoy the feel and sensation of books, especially new ones. When I go on holiday I love having a few books with me. Your cover is striking and beautiful.

So far this year, I've read 21 ebooks and 59 print books. About half of the ebooks were available in print format. Here are my list of pros and cons:

Pros - convenience of instant purchase, can read in the dark, can have a full library with a portable reader, I use autoscroll so no changing pages.

Cons - can't share, my eyes tend to tire easier, doesn't work well in the sunlight.

Hope this helps.

I read both but prints more so. And I love Lucy Monroe stories, in any format! :)

I prefer print books to ebooks since I don't have have a ebook reader. That is not to say I don't purchase ebooks at all. I do purchase ebooks since there are some great authors out there that have books that are out on ebook only. It is just harder to get them read since I have to read them on the laptop. Hoping hubby will get me a reader for Christmas. That would be so great.

Wow...I'm loving hearing your thoughts on this (and thanks tons for the kind words on my books).

And in my experience...it's somebody in the marketing department at the publisher who makes final decisions about covers. :) I've been really happy with all of mine so far.

Hugs to all,
Lucy

I love reading e-books. I have certain authors I like to read more than others but it does not matter if they are in e-book or print form. I love getting signed print books though. I love to curl up to a wonderful historical romance novel and get caught up in the story. I wish I could write one some day. I guess I just need some inspiration. Where is my Muse when I need one?

Rachelle said...

I have no preference on formats.. It's the story that counts for me.. If it's good, I'll read it in ebook or print format...

I usually go for the print book because it's easy to carry and very handy. I could choose to read it anywhere, anytime.

I prefer print books also. I can't sit in front of the computer all day and a book I can take anywhere.

I like e-books when I'm traveling. I'm a study abroad student in Sweden right now, and I currently have all the books that I've bought since starting college in storage... and it turns out it is going to be quite costly. I'm finding that, at least for traveling, or having a moblie life, e-books are better.

But I dearly love earmarking my book books.

BTW, your covers look really hot! I'm definitely going to check those books out.

Oh, boy that cover is yummy to look at. I can't wait for Jillian's story, yay!

I used to only buy ebooks from epubs like Elloras Cave, Samhain, etc. Now I try to buy ebooks from more mainstream romance publishers well.
Eformat tends to come out a little bit later than print, and I can't wait long enough for it to happen with my auto buy aithors, so for autobuys, I usually buy in print.

Chantal said...

I forgot to say, that I has lent Willing, And Able to a friend. She moves away, and my books got lost in the move. GRRRRRRRR.
So, I re bought them in eformat.
