Here Come The Brides!

Happy New Year, Everyone!

I'm catching up on a lot of things I still have hanging fire from 2006 (like finishing my Christmas letter, which I just did last night!) , but I wanted to stop by and say hi and let everyone know that Kate Walker, Liz Fielding and I have put together a contest called "Here Come The Brides" that began January 1st to celebrate our three February books -- all of which have "Bride" in the title!

They are:
Kate's The Italian's Forced Bride, Harlequin Presents

"As long as I want you, you stay — and you only leave when I give you permission to go"

Alice spe
nt six passionate months as Domenico's mistress. But she knew he would never love her back and would soon discard her — so she left him.But now Domenico wants her back in his bed, and his terms of possession are the same as before — until he makes a discovery that changes everything: Alice is carrying his child.

Liz's The Valentine Bride, Harlequin Romance

“Dammit, Louise,” he said, “you haven’t changed one bit –”

“Dammit, Max, neither have you!” She was on her feet, in his face. “You’re still the same arrogant, over-bearing, despotic, pig-headed idiot you always were!”

Working with Max was never going to be easy. There’s always been something
between them – something they’ve done their best to ignore. Family loyalty wins, but Louise extorts a very personal price from Max for her co-operation and sparks fly from the start.

and my The Santorini Bride, Harlequin Presents

Theo Savas didn't need marriage. He'd been there, done that. And he wasn't about to do it again – not that it stopped nearly every single woman on the planet trying. Hitting the "world's sexiest" list didn't help either.

Theo wanted space. Maybe even a bit of celibacy. So he was furious when his Greek island hideaway was invaded by a sexy, enticing woman – especially one who claimed his home was her
s!

At first Martha thought Theo was just what she needed.
Sizzling passion would surely make her forget what had brought her home. She never counted on falling for him – or conceiving his child. But when she did, Martha knew she couldn't turn to Theo. He was strictly a no-strings man.

To enter the contest, find the full names of each of the brides (check our blogs and website) and enter the contest on our websites. If you enter on all three sites you have three chances to win copies of each of these brand-new books!

The contest ends February 1st.

And be sure to check out our blogs during the month as once the grooms get wind of this contest, you never know what might happen!

Hope you all had a great holiday season. Did you get lots of new books? I did. I'm still working my way through them -- taking my time, actually, as I want to make them last. I've begun reading Kate's though, and I can hardly put it down. Domenico is a great hero!

Who are some of the best heroes you remember from books you've read?

Hi Anne,

Thats so neat (about the Brides contests). Cant wait to get my hands on the books.

And am happy to hear that you got some great books as presents.
Before yesterday, I would have said sadly that I didnt get any books, but I found out that I won the tote bag blog contest! Am so excited!
(Thanks Lee and all the authors too who contributed to the tote bag contest!)

As to great heroes...Wow...thats a very hard question. I have read lots of books and have come across so many great heroes.

Some of the heroes were from same authors, some of them from contemporary, historical and futuristic romance books. Each have their qualities and flaws, but they are perfect for the heroines in their own ways.

It is hard to list of all them, but the most recent one would be from the latest futuristic book I read. The "In Death" series by J.D. Robb. The hero(Roarke)is handsome, rich, smart and most importantly adores the heroine(Eve).
Roarke was the one that noticed they were meant to be together. He was a former thief, a computer expert (and he constantly uses this skill to help Eve solve some crimes). He eventually made a fortune and slowly turned most of his businesses dealings legal and turned all of them legal once he met Eve (she is a cop). He puts up with her crazy hours and is not afraid to let her know he loves her all the time.

For these and many more reasons, I think Roarke is a great hero. And he comes up in my head faster than other heroes right now because I get to read more about him since the series contains more than 20+ books.

But I also love the heroes from contemporary romance. Like the heroes from Harlequin Presents and other books and the lords from historical romance. Right now there are too many names to write down, but I will tried to come back later and shorten the list.

How about everyone?
Did everyone had a good holiday?

Hm...so quiet here...

I just remembered another hero's name. Although it was a book first, I remember the pirate hero more thanks to a telenovela (soup opera) called "Corazon Salvaje" ("Wild Heart").

The setting is in a Latin country, while titles such as countess and count still existed. One of the main characters name was Juan del Diablo 'cause he was born out of wedlock. He suffered a lot while as a child and was betrayed by the woman he though he loved.
Although he has a bad temper at the beginning, he was actually a good-hearted man who fought against circumstances to improve his lot in life.

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else? Where the hero comes more alive through tv/movie then from a book.
(I usually like books better than when movies/shows are made out of them)

Here are some of my fave heroes (there are so many, but I only listed a few):

Derek Craven in Lisa Kleypas's Dreaming of You (I think that is the title)
Nick Gentry in Lisa Kleypas's Worth Any Price
Dain in Loretta Chase's Lord of Scoundrels
Cole Claybourne in Julie Garwood's Come the Spring

Hey Jennifer,

I dont think I have read any of the books you mentioned, but Lisa Kleypa's one sounds familiar...

Was Nick a former head thief? If yes, I think I did read it and agreed with you that he was a great hero. He has his flaws and suffered so much as a kid but overall he became a great man and hero.

Yes he was Liz...Nick was a bit of a bad guy in Lady Sophia's Lover, but became the hero in Worth Any Price (great shower scene in that historical).

Derek Craven was also a bit of a tortured hero.
